During DDW (Digestive Disease Week), CONMED showcased a range of products aimed to help patients suffering from biliary strictures and obstructions. Among these, GORE® VIABIL® was showcased as an effective biliary stenting solution.

Precise Placement

The GORE® VIABIL® Biliary Endoprosthesis is a fully covered non-foreshortening biliary stent that remains stationary throughout deployment, eliminating the need to use a push-pull technique. The ease of deployment when using VIABIL® allows for improved communication between the physician and their team when coordinating accurate placement of the stent.

Importantly, it is designed with anti-migration properties, including anchoring fins and a uniquely impermeable ePTFE covering that helps keep the stent securely in place —something of the utmost importance to patients with malignant biliary obstructions who require long-term stent stability.

Long-Term Patency

A common challenge with placement of biliary stents is reocclusion of the ducts. The GORE® VIABIL® has features that reduce premature obstruction, including being fully covered with a permanent, impermeable ePTFE/ FEP barrier which prevents tissue ingrowth and allows for high conformability. Sustained long-term patency and reduced migrations result in fewer reinterventions, keeping patients out of the hospital.

Added Benefits of Fenestrations

DDW talks on GORE® VIABIL® came to a close with a showcase of its optional fenestrations, which help maintain transmural drainage during surgery. While risks are still present, the fenestrations mitigate risks of infection when compared to conventional metal tubing.
