What Happened?
A 16-year-old high-level softball athlete sustained an acute injury to the knee—a full thickness articular cartilage defect on the lateral femoral condyle (4cm2 in size) with no bony involvement. The patient wanted a single-stage cartilage repair treatment to facilitate return to play.
Dr. Skelley chose to treat the patient with CartiMax®, a single-stage viable cartilage allograft that can fill any lesion up to 5cm2.
Two months following the procedure, the patient fell walking their dog.
CartiMax® to the Rescue!
The patient received a repeat MRI at 3 months. The MRI showed decreased edema and well-integrated CartiMax®.
"At three months we're already seeing integration of the allograft, and that to me is very exciting and very reassuring to the patient.” –Dr. Skelley
There’s nothing worse for an athlete than an injury that keeps them from playing the sport they love. Unfortunately, sports injuries are all too common and can make it difficult to get back out on the field.
CartiMax® can help your patients get back to their sport faster.
