Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the VCare® insertion steps.*
- Grasp the anterior cervical lip with an Allis clamp or similar instrument.
- Sound the uterus. Graduation markings on VCare® can be used as a guide to ensure proper depth during insertion.
- If necessary, dilate the cervix to accommodate the 5 mm (0.2 in) diameter of the manipulator tube.
- Before insertion, lubricate intrauterine balloon and tip with a sterile surgical lubricant.
- Carefully insert the distal tip of VCare® through the Cervical Os until the intrauterine balloon reaches the desired position. For retroverted uteri, rotate VCare® 180° (tip facing downward) prior to insertion. To antevert the uterus, rotate VCare® 180° to the upright position.
- Remove the clamp from the cervix.
- Stabilize the external end of VCare® to prevent accidental dislodging or forward movement of the device until fully positioned.
- Attach the syringe to the Luer-lock adapter on the pilot balloon to inflate the intrauterine balloon with 7-10cc of air only.
- Remove the syringe to prevent spontaneous deflation of the balloon by backward pressure.
- Slide the green cervical cup forward until the outer edges surround the vaginal fornix.
- Slide the blue vaginal cup forward until it sits flush against the cervical cup and is properly positioned within the vaginal wall to maintain pneumoperitoneum.
- Slide lock towards the vaginal cup and secure in place by turning thumbscrew clockwise until tight.
- Apply gentle traction to the manipulator to check that VCare® is secured within the uterine cavity.
- Proceed with manipulation
